You Need a Big Platform, and an Enemy

On occasion I talk to experts because now

to sell a book you need a platform

unfortunate word people more than

your good friend Edite who likes most not all

of your poems you need to emulate Rupi Kaur

beautiful Indian from Canada her Instagram poems

have millions yes millions of followers.  An

enemy too poet Nayirah Waheed

millions too Nayirah said Rupi’s poems

have a hyper similarity to hers.  Why can’t you

make an enemy with your poems and generate

a controversy for your followers? Many people

don’t like my poems but none of them used

words like hyper similarity.    Man

at Cornelia Street Cafe maybe a year ago

after a reading said There isn’t a Poem in the World

I’ve Ever Liked and That Includes Yours.  He

gave me his card.  But I don’t know that he

would be helpful building my platform or qualifying

as a Real True Enemy.  I can only try.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
