Why I Don’t Like Her

Twenty  years ago, maybe even

thirty she said to me

we were both at a meeting about Palestinians

she said why would you wear orange

and red as though there could be

no possible Good Explanation and now

when we met at a conference for the first time

in years at a cocktail party I brought babaganoush

she said do you know if there’s meat in the eggplant

and when I said no she asked if I was sure.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Oh Vey…
I’ve known too many people like this…
Whose comments used to annoy me
Now I just shake my head
    In wonder and Laugh
