Where Do You Take People Who Are Visiting New York?

Maybe Brighton Beach

Not the MET or MOMA not the NEW YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY

not my favorite MET BREUER or my other favorite the NEW WHITNEY

museums even wonderful ones in many cities and of course it is amazing to see

Frida Kahlo at the Brooklyn Museum or Basquiet at the Whitney but a city isn’t

impressive institutions easy enough to go by yourself thousands of people

do  every day visitors don’t need me to take them across the park

or to a restaurant with a famous chef I am happier with visitors riding the D train

to the Brooklyn end Robert Wilson subway mural, Russians on the boardwalk,

big Turkish nut store with cookies and tea and then a real meal prepared by

someone who came to this country not so long ago, maybe from Georgia or Uzbekistan,

someone who might even come to our table and sit.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
