What’s True, or Pangolins

People send me private emails
they believe this is a private
question they want me to tell them
what’s true. In other words,
I might tell you that
I saw my friend Sarah
she is drawing a book
with a pangolin
do I really have a friend Sarah
and then, is she
actually drawing pangolins.
They want me to tell them
yes or no.
One day many years
ago I got a postcard for an art show.
The drawing on the card
was beautiful but what I
always respond to
is handwriting. What words
look like. Her words
looked like dancing. So
I called her up years
ago and she came to my office
and last week many more years
had intervened
she and I had lunch
at Fairway Cafe.
Where she told me
about pangolins.
(If the story is good
or good enough
does true matter?)

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. TRUE. What does that mean? In fiction, I mean. Or do they think first person means always autobiograhical…but then it is all true and all autobiograhical. So what a silly question.
