What Will Happen on Thanksgiving (COVID)

We’ll be in the living room

not our usual open house in the country twenty people or thirty

forty five one year some sat outside on the porch

Francine met a 90 year old woman named Edna

hitchhiking to McDonalds she picked up Edna

brought her to our house  Edna told the whole room

about the Communist Party. she was the Thanksgiving star.

Maybe this year we will bring chairs into the hallway

six apartments on this floor and we will all

give thanks together that in January this president will be gone

and this year this impossible year will have ended and

by spring maybe there will be a COVID vaccine and we

take off our masks and start everything over again.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
