What I’d Tell You Today, If I Could (for Fran’s Birthday)

I’d tell you

that age, from where I sit

from what I know

from who I am

where I went and where

I am going I would tell you that age

is just a small idea

smaller than anything

that might happen to

your knees and we

who don’t know what age even means

we who live each day

we’re all hoping hard

that we can that we will

be able to live

each day knowing

as much as we can

who we are

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. I love how the poem seems to divide in a mirror image at the longest line, deepening the meaning as it repeats words and phrases from the first half. “Age is just a small idea” is a very big and very helpful idea!
