Valley of the Dolls

I’ve never been a good sleeper

my parents took a rare trip

to Acapulco with the Galens

or Puerto Vallarta once when I stayed with my Aunt Bessie

in her house in Woodbridge Connecticut  different house

from ours Bessie made  spinach casserole with French’s dried onions

as her visiting dish my mother’s casserole always large lima beans

once when I stayed over I spent one whole night reading

Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls in 1966 I remember

the bed sheets sprigs of grey flowers matching the cover and the curtains

Valley of the Dolls and in the morning

Bessie asked me how my night was and I described the entire plot

of the book but of course she’d read it too.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
