There’s a Good Bar (and Why I Love It)

on 23rd Street one of those bars where you

sit forever talking the way you talk

in a bar life seems good even when it’s not people inside

are there to talk drinks are happy hour simple

wine is wine and no one discusses aromas or anything

like aromas  and yesterday John told those who wanted to hear

which was nearly everyone

John is 69 he is divorced  found out the week before

he has a half sister his father he loved his father had a longterm girlfriend

named Carmen (Carmen! said John.  Mary was his mother) who

had a baby girl  she found John on Facebook after over 60 years

and said I’ve always wanted a family and now it’s you

and the whole bar drank to that.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
