Talking with Strangers, a Clarification

(Thank you for the many people who emailed me CONCERNED that I was suddenly not talking to strangers.  Of course I am.  I just don’t want to discuss Parasite the movie or Michael Bloomberg the candidate.)

So yesterday I was on the subway

with Larry Bush  going to MOMA

Dorothea Lange  79th Street platform

a man named Eli said Nice Coat and then he told us

his mother wore Clothes Like That and her hair

was purple and she had A Talent for Painting Pictures

and he described a few of her pictures

and said he would send me a link  (he did) and so I gave Eli

my email and he thought at first I’d said my email

was Bull Doctor which made sense to Eli who knows why

and we all said goodbye and I told Larry

what he already knew that of course I would always

talk to strangers and he said Just Wear That Coat.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
