Stuff

Because I have gone to thousands of yard sales

yes thousands I can’t pass them by especially if they use words

like Giagantic  I should probably join

Yard Sales Anonymous though I want

to continue to stop

yesterday I bought a tiny

hand painted Armenian olive pit dish at a trailer sale

on my way to yoga how did the dish get to the trailer

how do Things get where they are and  when we

stop they go somewhere else because I have been

to thousands of yard sales  started with my mother

as a young girl I would buy autograph books to read

what people said besides Good Luck

seventh grade boy wrote

Remember I Never Liked You And I Never Will

now I have Too Much Stuff  too many

salt and pepper shakers 50’s bracelets

many are yellow too many

old postcards with  I Am Here x’s

and yet today I’m sure when I go out to the supermarket

when I drive on a backroad because it is summer

and warm very warm and many people put up signs

for Gigantic and Multi-Family and Enormous

yard sales and because it is virtually impossible

to have too many yellow bracelets too many green bowls

too many dishes for deviled eggs too many books I am sure

today when I go to the supermarket even though I have

enough for my own Gigantic Yard Sale this afternoon

I am sure I’ll find something unexpected maybe

highball glasses imagine drinking a highball on the porch

this summer perfect gin and tonic and

who drank highballs before and what they said

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Love this one! Thanks. What ever will we do with all our stuff and all the stories they contain when the time comes to downsize? Love my stuff! Now on my own, it forms my comfort blanket. -JoMae

  2. I love your poetry! I especially loved reading Stuff this morning. It warmed my heart & made me smile. I sometimes tend to be judgmental of myself & my collecting tendencies, yet I love my treasures. Thank you for making me feel understood & affirmed :).
