Some Things I Know

Davey was happy to talk on the phone

when I called  even though we hadn’t talked

since college.  He said he could describe his life

if I had the time. I had the time.

Most things don’t matter as much

as I thought.

I miss the people I’d meet all day

long every single day of my life.

A good book is always a good book.

Music helps no matter what.

John Prine, Jimmy Scott, and Nina Simone.

Annie can still make martinis at six

and tell a good Dyan Cannon story.

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Thanks for your poems. Taken together, a vicarious experience of life in the time of the virus in the epicenter of the pandemic. In some ways, evocative of life 50 years ago when things were different. But only in some ways.

  2. Dear Esther,
What a beautiful body. I saw a Northern Flicker hopping around eating brunch and rain turn to snow. What a day!
