Sit and Know You’re Sitting Meditation

They all say that: sit and know you’re sitting

as though when you’re sitting you might be thinking

to yourself:  I’m not actually sitting.  I am

swimming in a pool or jogging (although I have never

been jogging not even once) or standing up and not really

sitting.  This morning I listened to Joseph Goldstein’s

Sit and Know You’re Sitting meditation and it occurred to me

that Meditation Isn’t Funny Enough.  Maybe more people

would meditate if they knew that laughing was

a Real Possibility, sitting or not.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Definitely need more laughter in meditation! This memory made me laugh, too.

Overheard this couple while meditating with a friend on Munjoy Hill: I don’t want your fuckin’ money, you can give it to your fuckin’ loser sister or your piece of shit mother. I can’t wait for your piece of shit mother to fuckin’ die so I can spit on her grave (repeat last line with feeling). Breathe….

  2. I always enjoy your poems
    they are always humorous
    that is your talent,
    you reverberate to humor.

  3. love it!!!!!!!! i think you’re absolutely right.

however, something happens along the line because truly skilled masters of meditation smile all the time.

so maybe the question is how to get to where they’re at starting with not a lot of humor…..
