Richard Has Lived Here Since 1971 and He’s Moving Out Tomorrow

Richard has lived in the apartment upstairs

since 1971.  Tomorrow’s his last day.

His partner Ray’s had Parkinsons

for 25 years and life’s easier in the Berkshires.

where they live full-time now.  He’ll miss Ernesto on the subway playing

trumpet been there forever just like Richard so many people from

everywhere riding the trains you don’t find that

in the Berkshires and Carnegie Hall

he’s been going since he was a boy.  I thought about Jacob yesterday

declaring there is no more New York knowing he was wrong

there will always be people on the subway who aren’t

real estate developers  always be Port Authority

and music and if I left this city to live in the Berkshires

or Denver or Tuscon or anywhere in Florida I would miss it too.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
