Not Back to School

I am not back to school not back in the classroom

with Irene Vandercook first grade teacher friend

of my father’s she said when I made my valentine envelope

every one of us gave valentines to every one of us

I made my hearts orange and purple she said

Why Aren’t Your Hearts Red and she called my father

he brought my mother too for a conference and I

was in the room when Irene Vandercook explained

that every other person drew Red Hearts and they asked

all three of them Why Are Your Hearts Orange and Purple

and I told them that my heart, my own heart

was Orange and Purple and my father said to

Irene Vandercook:  You See.  She has a Good Reason.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
