My Friend Kay

My friend Kay
she could be a book
of poems she should
be a book of poems
funny how some people
are a book and others
of us we are a poem
on a good day
my friend Kay
seven children
rich full life
still does she’s
president of her
Vassar alumni association
graduated a while ago
she reads everything
we talk on Wednesday
mornings at 8:30
this week it was
Friday for reasons
of Yom Kippur I don’t
talk on the phone
as much on Yom Kippur
my friend Kay said
this morning that when
she thinks back,
when she was thinking about
Joe McCarthy and how much
she hated him she remembered
watching tv with her
14 month old daughter
but it was a wrong memory because
she didn’t live
in an apartment with a tv then
and Joe McCarthy was
four years later. The wrong
memory she said, because
sometimes memories just collide.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
