My Friend Barbara Asked What I Want to Do This Summer

because it is the 2nd of July and summer

begins when we say summer    because today

we are driving to the country to sit

on the porch what I want to do this summer is  sit on the porch

see what I can from the red velvet day bed with no springs left in the perfect

corner facing birds and trees   notebook in front of me

maybe the yellow Italian notebook I’ve saved for a while  fountain pen

second pen a novel maybe Less by Andrew Sean Greer we will

stop at the Cairo Public Library  see what’s there  go to the store

for a simple dinner  the book I’ve been writing for years and years

Every Fish Has a Tale will be the book I’ll write again.

Maybe I’ll write a poem.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
