Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge

Or: Who’s in the Jeep and What We Learn

Eight of us
in a jeep
with Hamilton and Doctor
they are actually named
Hamilton and Doctor
from birth
Doctor’s mother
wanted one
Hamilton has no interest
in the Broadway show
two young Germans
exactly alike
blonde and blonde
Indian family
of four from
near Philadelphia
two New Yorkers
in sweatshirts
today they tell us we
are elephant paparazzi
the zebras
we see are called
pajama donkeys
are close relatives
to camels
and impalas
are the Mcdonalds
of the wild –
edible and easy
to find.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. I am having such joy on your adventures, all the while sitting in my own apt. back here in NYC. I googled Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge, and it looks lovely, including the food. So happy you and Peter are having such a marvelous experience (for us all)!

  2. Wonderful for all of us to be there with you in the jeep. But what Broadway show? Where did that come from? The only impalas I know are the ones who sang “Oh Oh, I ran all the way home….”
