Memorial Day Weekend (COVID)

And we’re not going anywhere we are not

having the usual barbecue happily hugging

friends not eating hamburgers made on the grill I still love hamburgers

my neighbor said  a few days ago people in my building talk more now

six feet apart my neighbor said hamburgers are Politically Incorrect

according to the New York Times but I still

love hamburgers also Heinz Ketchup who cares about

the sugar we make new rituals

maybe this weekend we will still

celebrate walk down the street to Pappardella buy two

happy hour Negronis drink them in the park

make hamburgers on our old apartment stove works

perfectly well watch one of many movies

on the Big List say the words Memorial Day

three times in a row.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. After you mentioned Negronis a few times in your recent poems, I finally looked it up. Sounds good and refreshing. Next time I’m in NY, you can invite for a glass (?) of Negronis. And a 100% low-fat charcoal broiled hamburger (without Heinz ketchup, even if John Kerry’s wife is a Heinz).
