Meditation

For many years, I have wanted to meditate. And I make brief meditation forays. It’s there in me somehow. At dinner a week ago my friend Dan who has shpilkas (one of my favorite Yiddish words, equivalent to ants in your pants) said he finally found a good meditation app. Ten percent happier. So I’m listening to it this week.

I asked Peter
to meditate
with me.
It’s easier
for me
if he does it too.
Though
meditation
is not a group
activity and if
I wanted to be
in a group, I could.
Down this very street.
He is a reluctant
meditator problem
of meditation
language or
guru ness. He
doesn’t like
either of those.
I have never
had a guru not even
when I was young
and there were
gurus on every
street corner but
I wonder
if I want one now.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
