Meditating

I want to every day

like hearing Joseph Goldstein say

there’s no wrong way all you have to do

is breathe it’s not so hard and I sit

on this brown leather couch with orange pillows

facing Peter’s big screen tv

eyes are closed I don’t see the brown leather couch

orange pillows or the big tv don’t see anything

although it is all here right here and I sit

not especially upright I am not especially upright altogether

and I sit listening to Joseph Goldstein and for five minutes

or ten I just remember to breathe.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. So glad you stopped to breath after this past week’s news. It’s amazing how many people can’t do it and need to stop and take a breath. God’s first gift to us or– the Universes’ if you will– was the gift of breath. How cool is that legend? Genesis 1:30, 2:7. What poetry. Cool story. Thanks for Joseph Goldstein, Esther. I just checked him out on-line for the first time. I study meditation with Gurumayi Chidvilasananda on the Siddha Yoga Path. Jews with Buddhists, progressive Christians with Hindus …It all works for me. Gurumayi has an Ashram on 86th Street and a Center on 29th– among others around the world. Siddha Yoga doesn’t claim to be a religion especially since we’re all God and all one be-ing… It sure makes a different way —of looking at everyone and thinking about our choices and just what our responsibility is to the planet. People aren’t screwing their lives up. They’re screwing up Creations’ and Gods’ and creatures’… We don’t have to. Enriching might be nice like say with poems and painting and breathing and caring for the well-being of others especially kids and older adults. 54
