Medicine

Although I grew up surrounded by doctors coming over to dinner

Uncle Jack Old Fashioned I’ll Tell You What to Do

we have good doctor friends too  I never thought much about medicine

body parts either even my own except for how they looked wearing this or that

no body part was ever perfect but most of my life I didn’t consider them much

diet either I love ice cream also sugar in all forms coffee various drinks

many have been carbonated many contained Vodka in particular Grey Goose

my doctor friends retired now and I am reading a little about medicine very little

a long blog about functional medicine putting fun back into medicine

was there fun before even listed to a medicine podcast

the only one I will ever hear not that it didn’t make sense it did but the enthusiastic

proponent from the illustrious Cleveland Clinic explained how so much of what I love

to eat would be taboo he was not talking to me but to all of us I took him personally

no coffee no alcohol no ice cream no sugar never any sugar he even suggested

we all make salmon burgers at night, don’t eat them then, have them for breakfast

because breakfast is where they belong.  Now I think more about what my body

is.  And what my life is and what are body parts and what is medicine

except a way to help you live better, like coffee and ice cream and the cookies

my friend Gwynne brought over to eat last night.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
