Maybe Amazing

Last night at the Cairo Public Library

we talked a little about cliches

what we want to hear from one another

and what we don’t. How Are You,

responded to with Fine. How Do You Want

Me To Be. Reba said her daughter always

answers Amazing and she has never been

Amazing even one day in her long life but Reba

is glad to hear the word. So today when

someone called me and said, reflexively, out of the duty

we have to one another, How Are You I said

Amazing and I could tell that was the right answer.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
