Lakelawn B&B Yarmouth NS
Matthew tells me on the phone only
one room’s left in his B&B motel It’s both, he explains.
I ask if he’d describe the room because I like
his unfamiliar accent want the chance to listen more.
Of course he says telling me about number 17.
When we check into 17 he tells us
he’s from the old city of Jerusalem Jewish mother
Arab father they met through their grandfathers who were friends.
He studied in Catholic school Western Wall one side of the schoolyard
moved to Cairo for his father’s work then Singapore, San Francisco.
Why do people want small identities he asks. Now his parents live at
Lakeside B&B. We’re happy he says.
Sometimes we forget how large life can be.
