Love and Some People

I read Modern Love every single week listen to  podcasts

always been a love addict as a child I wondered about

Boshie’s married lover Harry would listen to the women

discussing Boshie and Harry they couldn’t say enough for me

the details of love my own particular subject matter why I read novels

not for information not so plot oriented either

I read them for love to see what happens and then what doesn’t

a few friends are good love narrators and that’s often true

of strangers when they know they can tell you their story

and you’ll never see them again.  So many years ago

on a bus in Lebanon Mamdouh an older man I don’t remember where

we were going don’t even

remember all that much about Lebanon but I do remember how Mamdouh

told me he fell in love with a Christian woman he was a young

boy her name was the improbable Sylvia he didn’t know why and of course their love

was forbidden they married appropriate partners he passes her sometimes maybe

once a month for all those years they do not speak

in the vegetable market she likes parsley said Mamdouh she’s still

so beautiful and we both smile.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
