Lory’s Birthday at Chicken Run (COVID)

Last night all seven of us from our house in the country

went to Chicken Run no one ordered chicken with Lory to celebrate

her birthday sat in two picnic tables far away from everyone

else outside near a creek below the mountains the place

was full and though we were sufficiently distanced

we were all together again all of us no matter who

we voted for we were together and Ahava built a sandcastle

said that Anna and Elsa could live inside

grandmother from Idaho had a hula hoop contest

nearby with her grandchildren winner would get

a soft ice cream the grandmother won.  I’ll teach you

tomorrow Ahava said.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
