January 9 Three People I Love Have Birthdays Today (and so did Richard Nixon) COVID

Hard to believe  three people I love

have birthdays today and so did Richard Nixon.

In college I met Bruce he’s from West Brookfield

Massachusetts and although

I’ve tried  To Describe Him often

I never could capture the Bruce of Bruce.

A woman named Ellen  two ex Italian husbands

Bruce is half Italian is helping him with his mail.

He’s legally blind. She said Bruce is the most charming person

I have ever met.  I asked if he could be cranky.

Of course she said.  That’s part of his charm.

I met Edite born in Germany years ago when Aryeh an Israeli book

publisher and philosophy teacher was staying on our

couch while meeting American literary agents to buy

rites for Israel. Edite represents Shel Silverstein.

Aryeh came home and said She’ll Be Your Friend for Life.

So I met her and she is.

Michelle Miller is younger.  Nina who is excellent

at hiring people hired Michelle.  Nina knew she was

gifted could help workers in very

large ways and she did and she does and she will.

The first time we were together years ago

in Las Vegas at a union conference a  group  sat at a big

table.  Everyone fell asleep right there except Michelle

and me.  She’s from West Virginia and I asked her

about herself.  My birthday’s January 9 she said.

I wasn’t surprised.

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

I hope you’re enjoying your reminiscing of these friends of yours. Happy Birthday to them (but not to Richard Nixon)
