Iris Dement and Now

It feels like day 2,000

of COVID we are mostly in our small

apartment I like it here but still

I am not an inside person writer friends say their life

is more or less the same not me I usually leave early

come home after dinner now I go from the bedroom

a few feet away from the living room to the living room

still dress for this brief journey I do not have sweat

pants or a sweat shirt don’t even have pajamas

I get dressed and sit on the couch and

don’t go outside until afternoon after I’ve written

a poem or two and a part of a story  and after

I’ve listened, really listened, the way I haven’t

for so many years, to miraculous singers

like Iris Dement.  Now I could sit right here

and just listen all day.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
