In Last Night’s Dream

I wrote a goodbye letter

to someone I don’t know

man named Tomasso I have never known

a man named Tomasso I wrote the letter

by hand on a piece of manilla colored Crane’s stationery:

Dear Tomasso I am,  in the words of

Elvis Presley returning you to your sender.

I hope you know who Elvis is but

even if you don’t you’ll get the idea

that You Should Go. Elvis sings

Return to Sender Address Unknown

and that’s what I am writing you.

I don’t have to explain, so I won’t.

Dear Tomasso Whoever You Are

Whoever You Were It’s Time

to Say Goodbye

(and then, I was very

careful choosing my stamp.  Just for

contrast, I picked a new stamp

Marvin Gaye and thought to myself

Tomasso will never notice the link

between Marvin and Elvis and that

won’t matter any more.)

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
