In Between

is when I write my poems

in-between Anibal bringing mouse traps

and the conversation we often have

with Anibal about mice

and why they are in these old buildings

and what we should do about them besides

buy a big red bucket with a lid to put crackers in

so the mice won’t eat our crackers and then Anibal

tells us about his son who may become a sound

engineer and he may not because he is influenced by

his girl friend who doesn’t want him to become

a sound engineer and then Anibal says that he will

come back tomorrow to see about mice

and tell us about the new elevator in this old building

and the people who moved out on the seventh floor

and the new Duane Reade and he shakes our

hands goodbye

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
