I Didn’t Write a Poem Today (COVID)

Because it is Sunday

even though Sunday is Monday or Tuesday now

and because there are strawberries at the farmers market

at last red and sweet as though Nothing Else happened

and because Colin Powell is supporting Biden and Black

Lives Matter is painted on the street in front of the White House

and Randy Rainbow has a new video called Bunker Boy

and because there is bright sun

and we watched Just Mercy last night we meant to watch

weeks ago and because my yoga teacher is at a workshop

so  Chi Gong instead and because yesterday

as is our New Habit we had Big Happy Hour Negronis

sat in front of the restaurant in Real Chairs  listened

to a woman maybe 10 feet away talking to her friend

about the big demonstrations and because I wore

my favorite dress to get the Negronis because we

were going somewhere besides this couch and because

there were so many people in the streets this week

and so many hopeful new poems.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
