What I Hope Will Happen, This Summer

We decided
all of us together
at the Cairo Public Library
one of my favorite
places on this big earth:
humble, generous,
what a place could be
we decided
at last Thursday’s class
first of the summer
we would write our summer goals,
goal being
one of those large words
that ends up small.
This summer
I’d like to get
my driver’s license
using an expired
license
for eleven years
don’t know how
to parallel park
but I’ll try to learn
this summer.
As for words,
I’m trying for a few
that sing.

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Good luck with the driver’s license Esther…..it always amazes me how you city mice can get along with out they. Actually it is kind of nice.
