Holiday Haiku

we should celebrate

lights and trees and you and me

whatever we can

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. I received a beautiful gift last night. You were in my dream Esther. We seemed to be working in the same school and the event in auditorium that did not seem to go too well ended. People walked out and back to classes. I saw you ahead of me , with your beautiful big red hair , your loose patterned dress then your arm stretched out with bangles and long fingers extended back as you walked up a winding narrow stair case. I followed you; others headed to other stair cases. We entered what I guess was suppose to be a classroom but it had a very beautiful patterned rug; with orange and recalled Willam Morris patterns. It was a room where your style was complimented by the decore. I had to return to my class I guess so I sat on floor next to you because that is where you were. I finally was able to tell you how much your creativity, your style , life style and art had and continued to inspire me to go on and believe in myself as an artist . We slowly rose and you and I embraced and maintained a long embrace where we seemed to sway to some gentle almost not audible music that we flowed with.

Thank you Esther. That dream means a lot to me; especially this year as I continue to hold on to my NYC Dept of Ed. teaching job. I am now reengaging in my art.

  2. Esther the poet
    says we should celebrate
    whatever we can
    so I’m going to celebrate
    not being able to find
    my wallet which I misplaced
    several days ago
and have not been able to find
although I have looked high and low
why celebrate a lost wallet you ask
well, if I knew where it was
    I’d open it
and take out a credit card
    and buy something online
    something I don’t really need
    so the misplaced wallet
    is saving me money
    at least for a while
    and that’s a good reason
    to celebrate
