Here

To describe various heres

has taken years.  Nazareth

first published novel took ten years of writing

people and the streets in small brown books.

The notebooks had to be brown

for no reason.   Back to brown notebooks

this summer.  31 years

word after word I have tried to say

attempts  a word that does not do justice to serious trying

what place means how place looks

what it feels like to walk on a country road

deep valley a sky that’s never the same

to see Martha Elliott at the post office

I’ve given her many names

her mother was  a Chaucer character swearing and rocking

God Damn she’d yell in her own  funny rhythm

Martha Elliott an old woman Chaucer herself

Still After Me she said about a man with a gun

she met 10 years ago at Price Chopper still thinks

he’s got a chance.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
