Happy Birthday Peter

(I want to write this poem on 10/10 at 10.  It’s now 9:19)

We’ll drive to Old Saybrook. there once

a million years ago at Norton Mezvinsky’s

brother Ed’s house

Ed could be a novel. So could Norton.

Ed is the father of Chelsea Clinton’s husband Marc

they’re both sons of a Polish chicken farmer

they lived in Iowa all we remember of Ed’s house

was that Katherine Hepburn lived nearby but of course

we didn’t see her. Today we will drive, the way we both

like to celebrate everything, stopping here and there,

say the Tired Tractors Museum, and   arrive

at a place that Luxury Link says is

spectacular and discounted   sit somewhere

luxurious and beautiful and discounted

we’ll have a drink or two right on the beach

then one of us will sing.

Let me tell you why I’m here, and why I hope you’ll join me.
I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I’m here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
