Hands Up, Don’t Shoot

Ferguson officer he won’t be charged
Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown
yesterday Wilson wasn’t charged
in Brown’s death. Innocence and guilt
seem so clear hard not to be wildly angry
to stay up all night wondering what we can all do
so that this doesn’t happen again and again and again
what we must do because doing nothing
never a good option. There is something wrong
with the system of law, with officers shooting
people who are innocent history doesn’t seem to change
too simple to say that education
is an answer, though I believe
education is an answer.
College teacher Edward Weismiller
Blind PhD he said
There’s Nothing At All
That Can’t Be a Poem.
Nahum Goldmann international statesman
no matter what happens to him
or to the world he will listen
always listen to music
music is beautiful hope he said.
I sit on an old red velvet couch.
Thinking about Ferguson.
Listening to Bach.
Trying hard to write a poem.

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Hmm… a poem idea: best music to listen to when contemplating: overturn the system! I’m not sure it’s Bach, but I’m open for the discussion… I mean, the poem.

  2. Esther,

Once again, in your poetry, you make us understand that the words of anger are never the solution to an angry world, which makes us realize that we have to try harder to change what is unacceptable.
