Green Bean Bake or Poems Could Be About Anything

Dorcas Reilly who died last month and received

many obituaries I saved three of them invented the green bean casserole

63 Thanksgivings ago and she called it The Green Bean Bake.

Signature ingredients the same as today: canned green beans

canned mushroom soup milk soy sauce and French’s fried onions.

Dorcas Reilly lived in Camden New Jersey, where she grew up.

Camden was the home of Campbell’s Soup and Dorcas worked

for them when she invented The Green Bean Bake. My Aunt Bessie

made The Green Bean Bake for Thanksgiving every year in the same

green dish.  It was always devoured.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. We give great thanks to God for the Campbell’s Soup Company and Dorcas Reilly of Camden, New Jersey. Forgo the turkey if we must but never ever never the Green Bean Bake! It’s one of those once a year dishes that just has to be there or the feast is not complete. Now I want a Dorcas Reilly t-shirt for the season. Many Blessings
