Going Home

Flying to India we sat with a deaf

young woman who slept. The steward

asked to wake her when meals

were served. She didn’t want to eat,

so all she said was No. Flying home

Satish sat in the third seat. There are 33 million Hindu gods.

By the time we flew home we knew. Satish means

lord of Sati. The dictionary sentence to describe Satish

said Satish married a white girl.  Our airplane

Satish did not. He moved to Flushing with his family.

Queens College then Wall Street.

Satish married an Indian banker Aparna. Goddess

too he said. He started a container business has

two grown boys one in IT one in yoga.  What do you do

he asked after a while.  I write I said. What in the world

do you have to write about?  I hope it’s Astrology he said.

I’m interested in that.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. I have missed India while you have been traveling. And now I am thinking of one of the dearest men on the planet, Satish Kumar, editor of Resurgence Magazine, out of Great Britain. One of the most relevant, gorgeous mags ever!!

I once queried him to write an article about The Seed Lady of Watts after he introduced me to Vandana Shiva, the Seed Lady of India. He said yes. But she said no. The rich were trying to steal her land. They don’t want the people of Watts to have vegetables and free enterprise opportunities. They want them on a diet of fast food and guns. Like the President.

I wasn’t writing poetry at the time, I was writing about nonviolence. Turns out they can be the same thing. He prints poems, usually ecology related, but perhaps he would be interested in yours.

    Love,

    Peggy
