Getting Ready for India

I am not good at Getting Ready.

Some people take many full ziplock bags. Medicines. Creams.

A friend asked yesterday if I have underwear made of travel

material. I do not. No pants with pockets to hide

my passport no odd vests with zippers and pockets.

My first big trip so many years ago I spent about a week

choosing earrings what earrings would I wear on the

ninety nine dollar train that went anywhere in Europe.

They should dangle and move, but how?  In the end I chose

a pair that looked like loose grapes color that changed

light kind of green but yellow too I’d gotten them from a small

store on P Street in Washington D.C.  The owner a woman

in false eyelashes said I’m not sure about those earrings but I

was sure and happy to wear them  and on this trip to India

when we take long trains to Varanasi to everywhere else

I will wear earrings too.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
