Fairway (Covid Friday am)

Do you think you are the only

Older Person on the Upper West Side

Peter asked when I left this morning

to go to Fairway for Older Hour  7:30 you’d do better

going to Younger Person’s Time although I am not

a Younger Person but because it’s a beautiful day

I wanted oranges  prefer going to the store

even now the entire store

looks as though they are trick or treating we stand

on lines away from one another

and when I got to Fairway at let’s say

7:40 for the sake of record keeping  store was

full with young and old  people standing six feet apart t out of

yeast and Peruvian olives this was not an essential

walk outside not an essential anything a minor

desire as minor as could be to go outside.

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. The IGA in Hillsdale, NY is open for seniors from 7-8. Pretty busy during those hours especially when you consider that it’s practically empty the entire rest of the day.

  2. Thanks Esther for the view into your life. Talked to Bruce about it all. Wish I could come by and bow from a distance even though I’ve only been around Phyllis these long weeks it would be good to hug. Heard Dylan’s latest memory song from long ago. The danger of not having tests or the waters around us on the rise. Life is a floating world.

  3. 6:00 – 7:00 a.m. for us Seasoned Citizens in the Catskills. Well. Thanks but no thanks. I’ve noticed what Norman has noticed. Don’t you feel like we are a part of some alien movie moving around? Aye yi yi yi.
