Epiphytes in Sarasota the Number 1 Place for Them

I didn’t know what it was.
An Epiphyte is a plant that grows on another plant but is not parasitic, such as the numerous ferns, bromeliads, air plants, and orchids growing on tree trunks in tropical rainforests.
An epiphyte another one of those
amazing words, more or less you and me and also
me and you that is we grow on one another if we are lucky,
grow together anywhere exact location
doesn’t matter position fused in a way
that is not parasitic growing growing
Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. I really love this piece. For me it was a word of healing. So glad to hear there are Epiphytes. In Westchester years ago they brought in ground cover to secure the earth but now the plants run up the trees and strangle them. It’s very sad. You can see it along the Saw Mill River Parkway. I certainly prefer to be an Epiphyte with and for you than a parasite like these vines. It’s nice to grow together and apart wherever in the world we all may be. Did you know this is the season of Epiphany? Peace for your Spirit. Joy your Soul.

  2. Loved your poem. As a wanna be botanist I knew what an epiphyte was but I had never thought of it the way you presented it. Thanks for helping me grow!
