EPES

The older I get the more I want

to speak Yiddish even though I don’t know

much Yiddish just a word here and there.  Like

EPES translated on the internet as SOMETHING.

EPES is better more nuanced a word with

IMAGINE THAT as well as a small OY and always

The Humor of Life as in last night

Peter and I went to the movies in Albany to see

the new Julianne Moore Michelle Williams film

(it was OK) and the theater had

a Cat Film Festival EPES.

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Hi, dear Esther. Do you remember me – one of the number of Esther Cohen we’ve found some years ago ? As a matter of fact I’ve been following you and reading your poems since then even not being in touch. By the way, I know some of our Ydish and epes is one of the words I’m familiar with and it has the same meaning as well. I wish you the best.

  2. Esther, did you and Peter stay for the Cat Film festival EPP ISS on your TUCHES and NOSH during the SHMALTZ or did you think you would PLOTZ and yet know it was A fun, COCKAMAMIE, (French/Yiddish) idea. Maybe it was a better idea to stay home and read A BUKH and KVETCH. Or not. Yiddish certainly enriches storytelling. Maybe I too will join you in my ALTE KACKER learning YIDDISH. As Krishna said to Arjuna, ‘Why not?’ Ain’t that EPES.

  3. Hi, Dee. Welcome to the Esther Cohen’s Club. Only two of us, why not many ? Some years ago, when I’ve happened to know about Esther’s poems, both of us discovered there are others, in other countries. Our Esther Cohen’s project had been such a catch, but it still remains just an ideia, nothing more. Perhaps one day…
