Couches

Getting a new one today

though this is Not News

apartment more upside down

than usual often upside-down in here

thin hallway piled with books

piles have to be somewhere else because

old couch could not leave new one could not enter

without some changes and those changes are books

last night I tried to be honest about the hallway books

will I ever read Roland Barthes again S/Z a long

long time ago should it be on my shelf and what about

Anita Brookner I love her wanted every single book

piles and piles pretty much everywhere but all I have

to think about today is the thin hall I’ve always loved

that hallway makes the apartment seem a little bit

longer you walk in through a hall

to a living room with a window one good window

really all you need, and maybe some books.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. You’ve evoked memories. It’s really hard to give away one’s books even if you doubt you’ll ever read or reread them. But I always feel better about it when I give them to Housing Works. That way, others can buy them at a very reasonable price and the money goes to help people with AIDS. I used to give them to libraries but they don’t take batches of books anymore.
