What Can You Say About a Friend

What can you say about

a friend you loved

as complicated as anyone can be?

He knew how to tap dance,

wanted to be a potter or a painter.

We would talk all day

His father didn’t understand  gay

Didn’t like it.

Women loved him.

A handsome talker

wearing beautiful shoes.

A million lunches over the years.

He would describe. He would define.

I had a nun boss

a real nun Sister Ruth we would go

drinking together in Rye she’d give me

life advice.  Secular Jews

needed more life advice than other people.

Write letters to everyone you know

she said.  Especially if they die.

Tell them as much as you can.

Dear Evan I will write that letter to you.

Esther Cohen
Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
