Looking for a Doctor, or Anil D.

Anil D.

(possible title
of a poem collection
and a little too Beatles)
I continued my search
for a doctor.
Our friends
were our doctors
until they retired hard to find
someone else
I didn’t expect
to like Anil D
Canned Office
where do they buy
those out of focus
posters from
no one paid attention
to what anything looked like
because Charlyne came out
to walk me back and she said
Get On The Table
and I said No
I am here for a consultation
I’m going to sit in a chair
and she said
What’s Wrong With the Table
I explained that I didn’t want to
lie down when I was asking him
to tell me what he thought
about aging and medicine
and being a doctor and having
a patient about flu shots
and statins.
Anil D. sat
in a chair and I did too.
He said he was a doctor
because of his identical
twin brother and then he
told me a story and I
listened and told him
a story too.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. Just wondering if you ended up liking him? If not you might want to try my doctor. Her name is Dr. Audrey Chun and she’s at Mount Sinai, the Martha Stewart Geriatric Center. I hate that the center is called that but I do like Dr. Chun.

  2. Good for you! requesting a consultation. I am looking for a doctor also and
nobody seems to understand “consultation”. It has to be a physical or some
reason to bill for the session. Such an important, personal thing, one’s doctor.
Leave it to you to end up telling each other stories! xoxo

  3. Sweet thoughts on subject familiar to me. There’s a wrestling match going on among cost efficiency, intimacy and good results. You touch on the problem in a sweet way but offer no conclusion.
    Who could?
