There will be so many poems

about Aretha odes to how

her talent shaped us all That Voice

what it’s like to have a voice like that, and rhythm,

and a way to tell every single person

strangers too how you feel and how they feel

and what it means to respect and think and love

and when she threw her mink coat on the floor

at the inauguration  there she was so beautiful

and full of song and music and everything

Aretha everything

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.

  1. She was such a huge part of my life growing up
The neighbor’s son much older than me loved Motown
If not for him, I wouldn’t have heard her music
    She was very private

  2. I saw Aretha perform live and she was wearing a mink stole. In Memphis. In May. She was a diva in the best possible way.
