Anastasia on County Route 20

We met Anastasia through my friend Sheila

Sheila didn’t go to church but she

knew priests maybe from Ireland they were all from Ireland

every single summer she’d come over talk about her husband

big big family coming from Ireland at 17 cleaning houses making a life

her husband Dennis died on Easter Sunday 89th birthday in hospice in Florida

Anastasia’s sister Bridey called to tell us Dennis died and I called Anastasia

to say we were sorry she said one of her happiest days

in her long life was when Ziggy a neighbor took us in his truck

to Middleburgh New York for vegetables and ice cream.

Do you remember what Ziggy said after we ate the ice cream?

Now Let’s Get Some Pie.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
