GLENDORA

Vickie told us about Glendora.

Glendora is blind not completely

not young for a while

not middle aged either personality

on community TV didn’t have

money couldn’t drive

I’ve been thinking about her

because she called libraries I love

libraries want to tell some library

stories she asked librarians in upstate

New York where she could live

for four hundred dollars a month

found a woman who said come

right here  I’ll pick you up

at the bus station take you to an apartment

in your price range you can walk

to the supermarket you can walk

to the library we have audio books. The librarian’s

name was Maureen. Glendora has been

living in upstate New York for a while.

Maureen knew how to make a life.

So did Glendora.

Let me tell you why I'm here, and why I hope you'll join me. I am here to poem, to play with words, to tell stories when I can, and to ask you for yours. Words are what I love, how I see, and what I say. Words are how I know my life, and how I find my friends. I'm here to ask you to join me. Right here. To send me your stories, and your poems. And to read mine when you can.
